History: The Valentino Fashion Group S.p.A was founded by the italian designer Valentino Garavani when he opened a sumptuous fashion house on Via Condotti in Rome with his father by his side. It was when the entrepreneurial skill of long-time boyfriend Giancarlo Giammetti came to Valentino's rescue that the company started to blossom after being in a financial crisis. The international debut and breakthrough took place in 1962 in Florence where their first show at the Pitti Palace was considered as a true revelation as the young couturier Valentino was submerged by foreign jet set customers. The company has rosen successfully ever since.

Wearing a rather odd outfit consisting of a black hat, weird grey top and the popular purple Valentino bag, Hilary held on tight to her bodyguard as she left the club. With her purple Valentino bag but without a bra Nicky Hilton was spotted out in Beverly Hills yesterday where she had lunch at the restaurant Orso. Unlike her sister Paris Hilton, who seems to be joined at the hip with boyfriend Benji Madden, Nicky's lunch date wasn't her boyfriend David but a girlfriend who kept in the background. Nicky showed off her legs in her short black dress and we actually think she's looking a little healthier nowadays, don't you?!

Nicky Hilton and her girlfriends seem to share the same taste in handbags because Nicky and her friend were spotted in Los Angeles yesterday wearing matching purple Valentino bags! Dressed all in black and with big sunglasses on, the purple bag was the only thing that gave Nicky's outfit a little color, as opposed to her friend who was wearing a pretty long summer dress. Nicky could probably learn a thing or two from that girl because wearing all black on a hot California summer day isn't very practical!

The amfAR Cinema Against AIDS 2008 gala took place in Cannes yesterday and attracted a number of Hollywood stars! Natalie Portman, Sharon Stone and Petra Nemcova were just a few of the beautiful women in beautiful gowns who walked the red carpet and everyone seemed to be happy to be there. The event raised funds for AIDS research and we think that's great. Anything that combines charity with Haute Couture is fine by us!

The Cannes Film Festival continued last night with the premiere of Gwyneth Paltrow's new movie Two Lovers which is about a young bachelor (Joaquin Phoenix) who is torn between a childhood friends who is parents want him to marry and his volatile new neighbor. Gwyneth walked the red carpet wearing a quite dull midnight blue dress with a very tanned Valentino by her side. P. Diddy, who usually travels to Cannes for the Film Festival, showed up too, looking very handsome in a great tuxedo. We'll probably be seeing a whole lot more of P. Diddy this week!
