In a new tell-all TV interview with True Hollywood Story, music producer and hit-maker Timbaland opened up about some pretty dark and secretive feelings he had been having in his younger years. Namely, unrequited love and suicide. Timbaland revealed that he was madly in love with then 17-year-old R&B singer Aaliyah Dana Haughton during their collaborations for Aaliyah's second album, "One In A Million" in 1996, but that he kept his true feelings for her hidden due to their 8 year age gap.
He revealed, "When I first met Aaliyah—it time for the world to hear this, I'm gonna give a little secret—I was in love with her. I said, But I'm not…She just a baby, I'm old. I said to myself, 'I'm just gonna be her brother.' Oh man, I was fightin', I was fightin' a lot—a big war. But I loved Aaliyah."
Aaliyah tragically passed away in 2001 in a plane crash on Bahamas which coupled with Timbaland's weight issues, sent him into a dark spiral that almost drove him into taking his own life. He said about the dark time, "I was almost 400 pounds (181.8 kilograms). Who wants to be a 400-pound black man? I’m looking in the mirror, my breast is bigger than a girl breast. And I was saying, ‘That ain’t cool’. So I got very depressed, like suicidal depressed.”
But after rain comes sunshine! Today he's leading a much happier and healthier life with a loving wife and children.
