American Idol is a spinoff from Pop Idol created by British Simon Fuller. The aim is to discover the best singer in the country through nationwide auditions. Twelve finalists sing a song and after each song they get criticized by the judges. After each show America must vote for a finalist. The contestant with the least amount of voices is eliminated. The show goes on until their is only one contestant left. The winner is crowned "American Idol" and wins a recording contract worth approx. $1,000,000.

What on earth is she wearing? She sure likes the attention!
Paula Abdul was in a festive mood when she left Eva Longoria's restaurant Beso in West Hollywood. The American Idol judge stopped to greet a passing fan and showed off a local artist's work. Paula also chatted with photographers and said she definitely wouldn't leave American Idol until Simon Cowell had left. She then headed back to her car wishing everyone a happy holiday before driving home. Finally a celebrity who isn't rude!

American Idol's Simon Cowell has revealed that he was dumped by text message. The multi-millionaire split with Terri Seymour, his girlfriend of six years, in the summer as he wouldn't commit to having a family. And now it has emerged that he was told his relationship was over in a mobile phone message from Terri.

Simon Cowell just broke up with Terri Seymour, but she don't come away empty-handed. The American Idol judge gives her a total of $9 million. $5 million for her just to spend and $4 million to buy a new house in Beverly Hills. The couple broke up because Simon didn't want to have kids.

Seeing as Ryan Seacrest always has about a million projects going at once it may not come as such a surprise that he managed to save up for a new Bentley cab. The American Idol-host was spotted running errands in Westwood yesterday and took the chance to show off the new, very expensive black sports car. He was also carrying two bags, one of which was from Yves Saint Laurent and costs at least $1500!

Teri Hatcher brought along her daughter Emerson Rose to the American Idol Grand Finale in Los Angeles yesterday and isn't Emerson cute? Last year's winner Jordin Sparks, country singer Carrie Underwood and High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale were also there to see who would become 2008's American Idol! We won't say who won in case you missed the final but for those of you that are curious, here's a clip from the final!
